History and Purpose

Celery Soup – Florida’s Folk Life Play

Celery Soup blends a faithful team of board members, volunteers, performers and community members dedicated to collecting and preserving true stories of our Florida residents.

Five years ago we had a dream.  We started collecting oral histories with the end goal to produce an original folk life play based on the memories, stories and true accounts of the people that make up Sanford, Seminole County and the state of Florida. The road hasn’t been an easy one.  But anything worthwhile has its challenges…and its adventures.  Our supporters have been phenomenal.  One of the benefits of this project has been working with an amazing cross-section of the community. Our passion for your story has produced both an open dialogue and a sense of unity that continues to grow.

So what’s in a name?

Soup brings to mind warmth, comfort and security.  It’s our goal to bring all of these ingredients to surface through this project.  In sharing stories we discover our history and learn more about our community’s perseverance.   We also find a commonality.  Celery Soup takes us through a journey, revitalizes our spirit and celebrates the people of our communities.
